Our ethics course for physical therapists and ethics course for occupational therapists is unique in that it takes a moral psychology approach to resolving ethical dilemmas in physical and occupational therapy practice. According to moral psychology, people make ethical decisions based on intuition first and reasoning second. As a result, there are many potential perspectives on how to resolve grey ethical situations. Another principle of moral psychology is that morality binds and blinds. Morality connects people to one another, but it also blinds people to seeing the morality in others. The goal of our ethics course is to open up physical therapists and occupational therapists’ minds to the possibility of other perspectives in resolving ethical dilemmas.
